Return to Me

Quiet your mind and hear God whisper today, "Return to me."

"Thus says the Lord: “Stand in the ways and see, And ask for the old paths, where the good way is, And walk in it; Then you will find rest for your souls. But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’" - Jeremiah 6:16

Have you ever had a verse follow you around until it finally resonates? That's exactly how I feel about this warning giving to the Israelites in Jeremiah 6:16. This verse has been following me around for months, and it wasn't until this past week that it finally all made sense: He's calling us back to Him!

God, through Jeremiah, is calling the Israelites to take notice of their choices in order to show them just how far they have wandered from their faith. These old paths are the days when they sought the Lord wholeheartedly. When they worshiped, prayed and sought His ways.

But somehow, somewhere along the way they lost their way and they lost sight of Him. An entire nation had forgotten the God of their forefathers. A nation delivered and redeemed that has, "forgotten me days without number" (Jeremiah 2:32), says The Lord.

And yet, He's still calling them home. Reminding them of the old paths, the paths of righteousness. Days of seeking the Lord, delighting in His ways. That's where He says the good way is. That is the path He's calling for us to take. It's there in that place that we can find the rest we so desperately need.

We cannot afford to make the same mistakes the Israelites made. We cannot say, "No, this is not the path we will take." It's not too late to stand and see, hear the voice of the Lord today as He cries out to you and me, "My Son, My Daughter, it's time to return home to Me."

Prayer Excerpt from Hope in the Hopeless: 30 Prayers of Hope + Thanksgiving by Audrey Buchanan

Heavenly Father, I'm sorry for neglecting you, and not giving you the attention you deserve. For I was blind but now I see, you're all I really need. Help me, Lord, to live out Your purpose for my life. Put these skills to work for Your Kingdom. I choose today to live for You, and You alone. Guide me with your hand today and show me the path of righteousness that I should take. In Jesus' name, amen.
